August 27, 2000, 7:19 PM - IT RUNS!!!

The Porcupine runs. After a long weekend of putting the finishing touches to the motor and then wrestling the motor into the frame, we finally started the bike up Sunday night. Unbelievably, it started on the first push. You will notice in the photos below, that we ran the bike without the panier tank in place. Doing so enabled us to adjust the caburetors. Next up will be finalizing the fuel system and some cosmetic details.

The Porcupine project is nearing completion. With Scarborough 2000 right around the corner things are looking quite good. The chassis has been completed for about two weeks now and the motor is a few days from running. Hopefully we should be able to have a running bike by this weekend.

Well, it's finally here. After a month wait the Porcupine motor has arrived and is currently being disassembled for inspection and renovation. Our aim is to have the Porc up and running by the end of the year. Keep checking back to see how the project is progressing.

The Porcupine is a twin cylinder, 500 c.c., double over head camshaft motor. The camshaft is gear driven via the right side of the motor. A jack shaft driven off of the same gears sits to the rear of the cylinders and drives the magneto via a chain drive. The jack shaft also drives the oil pump. The primary is gear driven and sits on the left side. Output from the four speed gearbox is on the right side of the motor.
