ASSEN, HOLLAND JUNE 24 - 26, 1999
The Dutch TT, host of the Worlds Premier F.I.M. Motorcycle Grand Prix, has invited Team Obsolete Promotions, LTD., to produce a round of their celebrated Trans Atlantic Match Races for Historic Bikes. The Team Obsolete TAMR Series is on an " informal world tour," having had highly acclaimed recent rounds at Daytona, Laguna Seca, and Cadwell Park (U.K.)! In addition to Vanson Leathers, sponsors include: DomiRacer, Megacycle Cams, Cycle World Magazine, Avon Tires, Works Performance, AirTech & R/D Springs, Sudco, Supertrapp, and Agusta Aviation.
The usual format pits the best USA Historic Riders and bikes against their best U.K counterparts. However, for Assen, there will be three (3) teams: U.S.A., U.K., and European; for a total of almost thirty bikes!
There will be two races over three days on the legendary, 3.8 mile (6km) Circuit van Drenthe, on Thursday night, and on Saturday, immediately after the 500 G.P. Each team will be divided between Historic 500s and F-750s. Scoring will be broken down by displacement, by team, overall and cumulative (2 races). The overall points winner will receive the fabulous Hailwood Trophy presently held by Vernon Glashier.
Grand Marshall will be Six Times World Champion Jim Redman. He will do some demonstration laps on an ex-works Honda "Multi". Special guest Giacomo Agostini will parade on the trusty MV 500/3 that he used to win fifteen World Championships. Spectator Attendance will exceed 100,000!
Come see all of our Trans Atlantic Match Race bikes on display in our Marquis near the Welcome Center. (Group Photo "opportunities" Thursday 3:00 P.M., Friday 3:15, Saturday, T/B/A.
