AHRMA Strongman Jeff Smith, succeeded in defying the AMA after reneging on an agreement to stop blocking the race entries of Team Obsolete Riders. Dave Roper and Erik Green (MV 500/3 and AJS 7R) stood around the whole weekend at Sears Point while a succession of meetings between AMA and AHRMA officials got nowhere.

Smith delayed in informing Team Obsolete that their entries were blocked for more than one week. By this time the transporter had departed from New York to California. Obviously the objective was to hurt. This was the fourth time since 1996 that Smith tried to block Team Obsolete entries.

The AMA is reportedly re-evaluating their relationship with AHRMA. Some riders and sponsors signed a petition at Sears Point in support of Team Obsolete.
